Brand Disney to move into India

NEW DELHI: It has been long time in the coming and if the buzz is anything to go by, then looks like Disney has finally arrived in India. Brand Disney is unveiling itself in the form of two retail stores, The Economic Times reported. Contracted through Ravi Jaipuria, the youngest of the Jaipuria brothers, the report stated that the two companies are likely to enter a licensing arrangement later this month. A modest start, the deal will begin with just two stores in New Delhi before moving on to other metropolitan cities. Presently leading bottlers of Coke in India and owners of Pepsi in Nepal, the Jaipuria group confirmed the report but refused to comment further. With current retail business raking in over $20 billion, The Walt Disney Company sells its entire merchandise under the Disney brand, through Disney Consumer Products (DCP). Networking over 600 exclusive shops worldwide, the retail chain bears the trademark Mickey Mouse in merchandise ranging from apparel, toys, home décor, interactive games, electronics and food and beverages. They operate under Disney Toys, Disney Softlines, Buena Vista Games and Baby Einstein. In India, the Jaipuria group will hold license to merchandise Disney accessories, apparel, footwear and sleepwear, toys, board games, ride-ons, health and beauty products, consumer electronics.
