The U.S.-based global acoustics major, Bose Corporation, is starting operations here to deal with increasing client presence in eastern India, company sources said Saturday.

KOLKATA: The opening of an office in Kolkata will be a sentimental development for a company whose founder traces his roots to the city. Bose Corp., which has notched up an impressive 60-70 percent growth in India, was set up in 1964 by half-Bengali entrepreneur Amar G. Bose. The company specialises in speakers and audio systems but its video equipment are also in demand. Bose's products are considered as premium range with a pair of speakers costing anything between 19,000 and 90,000. According to Ratish Pandey, general manager of Bose Corp.'s Indian division, the company would first open a professional systems division for immediate customer support and follow it up with a retail showroom. "Right now we are looking for a suitable place for our office and service facilities," Pandey told reporters, adding that the customer service division was needed first to meet the demands of the growing client base in the region. "We decided to come here as a large number of our clients in the city either import the products or source them from our other Indian centres or the grey market. But once we have a presence here they can access us directly and more easily," Pandey said. Bose, which entered the Indian market in 1995 and has retail centres in New Delhi and Mumbai, has signed up some major clients in the Indian capital, including the newly opened super luxury hotel of the ITC group and a leading garments chain.
