Biman Bose condemns assault on Singur plant security guard

Kolkata: Left Front chairman Biman Bose Tuesday condemned the attack on a security guard within Tata Motors' Nano project site in Singur by a group of unidentified men.
"This is highly condemnable," told reporters here.
Bose appealed to Tata Motors to resume operations at the small car plant.
The auto major, which hopes to roll out world's cheapest car priced at Rs 100,000 ($2,500) from the Singur plant, 40 kilometres from here, has suspended work for the third week running.
On Sep 2, Tata Motors had announced the suspension of work at the factory after local farmers backed by the opposition Trinamool Congress laid siege to it Aug 24.
The umbrella body of the protesters - Krishijami Jiban Jibika Raksha Committee (KJJRC) - has demanded return of 400 acres to the farmers who were unwilling to part with their holdings.
An agreement was concluded between the state government and the opposition in the presence of Governor Gopalkrishna Gandhi Sep 2 to find the maximum possible land to rehabilitate this section of farmers. Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee later said only 70 acres were available.
With there being no signs of a resolution to the conflict, the government came out with the compensation package that was rejected by Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee, who has lined up fresh protests.
Bose also urged the state government to take adequate steps to create a congenial atmosphere for the company to restart operations.
The West Bengal government has extended by two days the Monday deadline for the farmers who had not collected their compensation cheques to accept an additional 10 percent of the land price.
