PATNA: The Bihar government will file a defamation suit against one of India's biggest telecom companies, Reliance Infocomm, for projecting the state as unsafe for tourists on its website. According to state Tourism Minister Ashok Kumar Singh, the website gave wrong and baseless information about Bihar's major tourist destinations like Bodh Gaya and Nalanda. He said the Reliance India mobile (RIM) website remarks against Bihar were "uncharitable and motivated". "I have instructed tourism department officials to file a defamation suit against the officials of the company as soon as possible," Singh told IANS. He said it was very unfortunate that a major telecom player like Reliance Infocomm had put information without verifying the facts. The website said poor law and order in the state made it unsafe for tourists. It also referred to poor hotel facilities in Rajgir in Nalanda district and total power failure in Bodh Gaya, both major Buddhist tourist sites. What has angered the government the most is the mention of mosquitoes and statements saying that there has been a complete failure of civil society in Patna. Local company officials refused to comment but said the contents were withdrawn after Bihar strongman Laloo Prasad Yadav protested to the top management.
