Bangalore: BAeHAL Software, a joint venture between UK-based BAE Systems and Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) based in Bangalore and the Bristol, UK headquartered Piper Group Plc, who are a tier I supplier to Airbus Industries, have established a Center of Excellence (CoE) in Bangalore. The center will be involved in technical documentation. Also on offer would be affordable but top of the shelf technical authoring and technical illustration. The facility will open the doors to hitherto inaccessible technology and BAE would provide with the manpower comprising 15 engineers and the infrastructure. But the strength would be ramped up to 120 over the next few months. Globally, Piper has three centers of excellence in Germany, France and Spain and opening the fourth center has been prompted by customer needs and cutting down on costs to the tune of 40 percent. On the other side, BAeHAL, which achieved a sale turnover of $ 7.8 million in the fiscal 2006, is targeting $ 11.2 million in the fiscal 2006. According to C. Subramanian, Chief Executive Officer, BAeHAL, the CoE for the Piper Group was expected to generate revenue of $ 2.2 million in next two years after that. Technical documentation, which translates to between five to 10 per cent of an aircraft's cost and accounts for over 90 per cent of the Piper Group's annual sales turnover of around $22 million, will allow BAeHAL to leverage its domain knowledge of aircraft systems.
