Bangalore, Kolkata Top in the World for Googling Sex

Bangalore: In a peculiar commonality found between the three South-Asian Countries, internet search giant Google says, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and India secure the dubious distinction of being the top countries that searched the word ‘Sex’ on the web in 2011. While Sri Lanka was ranked number one globally in 2011, Pakistan continues to be at the first place for all time search on sex on the web. Interestingly, eight Indian cities were figured in the list of top 10 cities in the world Googling sex.  Lucknow, the capital city of Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal’s capital Kolkata held the number 2 and 3 spots in the list.

The internet giant published its findings based on the Google Trends data, which analyses a portion of Google web searches to compute how many searches have been done for the terms you enter, relative to the total number of searches done on Google over time, reports PTI. The article also says Google Trends uses IP address information from server logs to make a best guess about where queries originated.

Sri Lanka, Pakistan and India occupied the first three slots in the list while the latest result on Google trends on searching the word sex shows Colombo, Islamabad and Calcutta as the leading cities that Googled more on sex in 2011. While Lucknow was not featured in the top 10 in today’s results, the other cities in the top 10 list are Bangalore, Pune, New Delhi, Chennai, and Mumbai.

All time searches on sex on Google has Pakistan, Viet Nam, India, Egypt and Morocco topping the list where New Delhi, Hanoi (Viet Nam), Bangalore, Thanh Pho Ho Chi Minh (Viet Nam) and Mumbai at the top of the list of cities.

Google has made its stand clear on the accuracy of data provided by Trends by saying, “The data Trends produces may contain inaccuracies for a number of reasons, including data-sampling issues and a variety of approximations that are used to compute results. We hope you find this service interesting and entertaining, but you probably wouldn't want to write your PhD dissertation based on the information provided by Trends."
