NEW DELHI: A high-profile IT summit to be held in India's technology hub of Bangalore in November will focus on outsourcing and issues related to security of information, said the organisers Wednesday. BangaloreIT.Com 2004 from Nov 1 to 5 is likely to see participation by 400 companies from India and 14 other countries, said M.K. Shankaralinge Gowda, secretary in the Karnataka government's IT department. The event is organised by the department of IT, biotechnology and science and technology in association with Software Technology Parks of India, Bangalore. "The conference will bring international business leaders, enterprises and IT industry professionals together and take the participants on the fast track of some of the hottest issues," Gowda told a press conference here. The official said the summit will discuss best management practices in outsourcing, wireless technology, third-generation technology and information security among other things. "I would say multi-million dollar deals are likely to be done on the floor of BangaloreIT.Com 2004 and in the subsequent months. Bangalore is the gateway to the IT and communication companies entering India," said Gowda. He said the event would provide a platform to showcase the latest products and services in the IT and communications industry from India and other parts of the world. BangaloreIT.Com 2004 will also have special pavilions on animation, games and media technology, infrastructure, e-security and software solutions. "This year the highlight would be the career stall for business process outsourcing (BPO) and IT-enabled services (ITES) industry that have emerged as the country's largest job-generating sectors," said Gowda. He said through the summit the state government would also try to project the "secondary cities" of Karnataka such as Mysore, Mangalore, Belgaum and Gulbarga as alternative IT hubs for domestic as well as overseas firms.
