MUMBAI: Business Service Management solutions major BMC Software Inc will invest around $3 million in its Research and Development (R&D) centre in Pune and recruit another 250 personnel as part of its expansion plans in the country. "We plan to develop Pune into a full-fledged Offshore Development Centre, as a stronger presence in the country will help in cost reduction, improved quality and processing time, apart from ontime delivery," BMC Software president and chief executive officer Robert Beauchamp told reporters on Monday. The company had acquired over 70,000 square feet in Pune to house its R&D centre, which would be extended to one lakh square feet within six months time, he said adding, the centre would collaborate with other centres for design, development, maintenance and support of its software products. "We hope to achieve an annual business turnover of $15 million from the country by the end of this fiscal," he added. The company had started its Indian operations in August 2001 with an investment of over $1.8 million, he said and added that the total staff strength would be 500 by next year. Terming India as "the world's help desk", Beauchamp said that BMC Software is also planning to set up a help desk in the country, apart from looking into Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) opportunities from the sub-continent. Meanwhile, BMC Software head (India operations) Pankaj M Dhume said it is also planning to integrate the operations of Remedy with its Pune centre. BMC had acquired Remedy, a Customer Relationship Management solutions provider, in 2001.
