BIMST-EC to launch free trade arrangement

NEW DELHI: Countries of BIMST-EC, an Asian economic grouping, will enter into a free trade arrangement early next year.
This was announced by Indian Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee while inaugurating the second India-ASEAN Business Summit here Thursday.
BIMST-EC stands for Bangladesh, India, Myanmar, Sri Lanka and Thailand - Economic Cooperation.
"BIMST-EC provides a valuable link between South Asia and our two close neighbours in Southeast Asia," Vajpayee said.
"We are working towards a free trade arrangement within this organisation, which will meet at the summit level early next year to give a decisive impetus to our cooperation," he said.
