Bhopal: Out-bidding multinational companies, the Bhopal unit of Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (BHEL) has bagged a prestigious National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) order for transformers worth 1.63 billion (about $40.75 million). "The NTPC order, for 27 transformers totalling more than 3,500 MVA, is the single largest such order finalised in India so far. It is for the complete power transformer package of 400 KV generator transformers, station transformers and unit transformers for the Korba Super Thermal Power Project (STTP), the Dadri Super Thermal Power Project (STPP) and the Farakka project," said BHEL spokesman P.C. Rai. The Bhopal unit of BHEL has supplied transformers to almost all electricity boards in India. "Customers continue to repose faith in BHEL transformers due to our strict design and manufacturing philosophy," he said. The BHEL transformers also have a huge market in Zambia, Greece, Indonesia, Libya and other countries. A new transformer block is under construction in the factory.
