MUMBAI: Pharma MNC AstraZeneca plans to increase its process R&D group in Bangalore and has already bought 14,200 sq metres for the purpose. The land will be part of the same campus as “Avishkar”, the newly built R&D centre. This will be used for a planned investment to house up to 50 more scientists, plus associated support staff for process R&D, AstraZeneca said. The planned investment will extend the recently built R&D facility at Bangalore, to provide new process R&D laboratories with the required scale-up facilities and associated equipment. The campus, which will have both discovery and process R&D scientists, will help AstraZeneca to maximise scientific interactions and enable shared use of the R&D infrastructure. Kumud Sampath, president, AstraZeneca R&D Bangalore, said, “Our long cherished wish has been to make AstraZeneca R&D India a part of the AstraZeneca global R&D organisation. With the establishment of the discovery R&D and process R&D centres in India, our wish has come true. With this, the India operations of AstraZeneca will now include the discovery phase R&D, process R&D, manufacturing facility and marketing Division (ISMO) at Bangalore.”
