GUWAHATI: IT and business process outsourcing (BPO) boom have eluded northeast so far. But, the picture is likely to change over the coming months as Assam gears up to get a slice of the IT boom and the BPO jobs. Assam government is working on a proposal to establish a high tech link between Guwahati and Kolkata. Besides, it is planning to set up an IT park, with the help of Asian Development Bank (ADB), on the outskirts of Guwahati to lure big IT firms. The state has already prepared a Rs 400-crore blueprint for the proposed IT park. The government is claiming that companies such as Wipro, TCS and Infosys have all came to Guwahati to explore the possibilities, but decided against it because of poor IT infrastructure.
