Ashok Vyas honored with community award by NIAASC

New York: The National Indo-American Association for Senior Citizens honored some outstanding Indian American citizens on the occasion its 20th conference and 11th annual meeting. Ashok Vyas, famous Indian American Journalist and program director with ITV, was honored with the community award for his long community services and his cultural and religious guidance which he actively imparted through the media. Vyas was honorned during the NIAASC conference at the Indian American Kerala Centre in Newyork with Rajnikant Shah from NIAASC center in NY and Milan. Rajeshwar Prasad, Executive Director of NIAASC, asserted that Ashok Vyas is a modest and compassionate broadcaster. He also noted that Vyas has been reflecting Indian philosophy throughout his life which says actions are to be undertaken for the purification of mind and not or the attainment of objects. Vyas has been working with International Television Broadcasting (ITV) for the past 11 years were he donned many roles including writer, cameraman, host, director for TV productions and editor. Vyas who is a practicing Hindu priest in addition to being a poet and a program director for ITV is also appreciated for his presentation style in Hindi. He has also tralated many spiritual books from English to Hindi and also co-authored a book with his wife Sheila that underlines the social customs and spiritual significance behind marriage. NIAASC, a well known senior organization working for creating awareness of the community's senior citizen issues and needs, has also honored many imminant people like Dr Uma Mysorekar, Dr Thomas Abraham etc with the awards. The award ceremony was preceded by a seminar on 'The essential Financial and Legal Tools for seniors'.
