Chennai: Areva T&D India, the, transmission and distribution division of French engineering group Areva SA is on a major expansion plan in India and is looking to hire 1,500 people in the next three-four years. The new recruits are to be deployed in its eight factories situated across Padappai and Hosur in Tamil Nadu, and Vadodara in Gujarat. Philippe Guillemot, Chairman and CEO of the company said, "We anticipate robust demand for our gas insulated substations (GIS) and power transformers. We need more people to feed the upcoming demand. This is why we embarked on the Rs 950-crore investment plan way back in April 2007 to build manufacturing sites at these new places." The newly inaugurated high-voltage manufacturing site at Padappai is home to three specific factories such as GIS, circuit breakers and disconnecting switches. These factories are amongst a total of eight that are being inaugurated this week. According to an official, around 400 crore have been put for both the sites in Tamil Nadu.
