Bangalore: With 100 million downloads in less than one year Apple’s App Store is making Android worry more about its revenue and future. Along with the Mac App Store, Apple has its iOS Store with around 500,000 apps and more than 1 billion apps are downloaded per month. This includes both free and paid apps.  Android market has more than 40 000 apps with a 10 million download and this rate is steadily increasing but didn’t seem to cop up with Apple’s App Store.

There is also a wide gap between Apple’s App Store and Google’s Android in terms of quality and number of apps per user. Even though Android apps are downloaded in large numbers due to the fact that there are more Smartphone users on Android-based devices than iPhones, the rate of deletion of Android apps are much more as these apps are sometime inferior and contains malware.

Distimo report says that “Apple’s App Store for iPhone generates four times more revenue than Google’s Android Market”.  Apple’s App Store has gained more revenue from its freemium apps; these are the apps which are free to download but comes’ with a paid component to access special functionalities. The most downloaded apps are the Gamming apps which occupies largest category of apps in all the app stores and therefore generates the maximum downloads.

While Apple and Google are playing cat and mouse to capture more pie in the Apps market, there comes the Microsoft's Windows Phone Marketplace showcasing a growth of 400 percent and having 40,000 apps. Amazon App Store, BlackBerry App World and Nokia Ovi Store are the other players in the row.
