MILPITAS, CA: Aperto Networks, a provider of systems based on WiMAX, a wireless industry standard for long-range communications, said it has named Manish Gupta vice president of marketing and alliances. He joined Aperto about three months ago, coming on board as its first vice president of business development. Gupta said he would continue to handle some business development responsibilities, saying the job will be split between himself and Aperto Chief Executive Reza Ahy. In his latest role as marketing vice president, which he started about two weeks ago, he is succeeding Alan Menezes, who is leaving the company this month. Aperto, which is in Milpitas, Calif., has about 120 employees total. Gupta joined Aperto directly from Megisto Systems Inc., a venture-backed provider of mobile network switches for controlling subscriber services. Megisto was in the process of being sold when Gupta left, he said. The buyer was Interactive Technology Holdings Ltd., a Hong Kong-based company, he said. He worked at Megisto for a little over three years, serving as its vice president of business development and alliances during that time. Prior to Megisto, he was at Jetstream Communications, where he was vice president of marketing and corporate development. Total funding at Megisto is $77 million. Investors include Alliance Ventures, Canaan Partners, JK&B Capital, Innovacom and Labrador Ventures. Also invested are Tyco Ventures, Redwood Ventures, JAFCO Ventures, Mitsubishi International Corp., Ridgewood Capital and others.
