BANGALORE: As a technology and aviation hub of India, BangaloreÂ’s contribution to these sectors cannot be debated, but now a Bangalore company, Accord Software, has become the first company from India to develop avionics for the Airbus A380, the world biggest aircraft, that was launched earlier this week. Though not directly contracted to supply the software, Germany based Diehl Avionik Systeme chose Accord as its Indian partner to offshore a part of the avionics for Diehl. Diehl is the preferred avionics supplier for Airbus and the partnership with Accord, albeit started on a small note, is worth $ 2 million now. But however with the successful use of its avionics in the Airbus A380, the company is expecting orders worth $ 4 million from the German firm in 2005, which is expected to rise in future. Accord Software was started by aviation technology experts, some of whom had earlier worked with Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) and their forte lies in developing cutting edge technologies for the aviation sector. Apart from the present off shoring contract, Accord has also patented a GPS based product that will find greater use in navigation, especially during landing as all aircrafts are supposed to have GPS system by 2010-12 and the market for such a product will be half a billion dollar and the company claims it will garner a huge chunk of that market.
