NEW DELHI: The government is keenly considering the merger proposal of Air India and Indian Airlines and has already gone ahead and appointed an adviser to explore the issue, Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel said. He said that the committee constituted by the Air India Board had chosen Accenture India Private Ltd as the consultant for the purpose. The Minister said that while the name of the domestic carrier remained Indian Airlines, the brand name used for promotion had been changed to Indian. About $4 million had been spent on re-branding, as a part of the promotional expenditure that was an enduring exercise, he added. However, no additional expenditure would be incurred on the painting of the aircraft in the new colors as this was being done only when the aircraft was due for its usual re-painting.
