Bangalore: The world’s cheapest tablet, Aakash, which was earlier distributed at a discounted price for students across the country is going to be available free of cost.

Kapil Sibal, HRD minister has reportedly stated the Governments plan on providing 50 percent subsidy to the tablet and the remaining cost will be covered by the institution where the student is enrolled. The institutions will be responsible for deciding the cost they can cover.

According to Sibal, "Government wants to give Akash tablets in the hands of every student, and then this will be useful."

The minister also revealed the plans on manufacturing all components indigenously.

"We had a meeting with Bharat Electronics. The government is looking for manufacturing all components of the Akash tablet indigenously. Otherwise, it will not be possible to distribute it as widely as planned," Sibal said.
