Bangalore: Ministry of Human Resource Developments effort to technologize the educational field with low cost tablet “Aakash” is receiving an overwhelming response as the bookings for the tablet reached 14 lakh in just 2 weeks.

Aakash, which was available on sale online from last month, had received a pre sales booking of 400,000 till October 2011. The vendor, Datawind had already sold out the first lot of 30000 tablets and is currently not accepting the cash for bookings. According to Suneet Singh Tuli, CEO of Datawind, the company is currently sorting out the issues with supply.

The tablet, which is priced at 2499, received a high response from both the corporate and individual buyers despite its slow processor speed and resistive touch compared to the available tablets in the market.

Due to the high demand, Datawind is establishing its new factories in Cochin, Noida and Hyderabad which is expected to be functional by April 2012. It currently has a factory at Hyderabad. “By April we plan to supply 70000 to 75000 units per day” said Tuli.

The upgraded version of Aakash, Ubislate7+ will be available online from January end at a price of 2999. The new version features a faster processor along with phone functionalities like sim slot for accessing the GPRS in additional to the available Wi-Fi. The pre sales booking status for Ubislate7+ is also “sold out” till March in the official website.
