NEW DELHI: To further increase its share of the processor market, Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) on Thursday launched its Sempron range in India within a week of its worldwide launch. "In 2003, we had a 11.8 per cent share of processor market which grew from eight per cent in 2002. We are growing faster than the market. We will bring latest products and expand our reach fast to further increase our market share," AMD Far East Ltd (India) country manager Sanjeev Keskar told newsmen. AMD entered the Indian market in 2001. "In the first phase of expansion we increased our presence to three cities and within three months we plan to open another office in Chennai," Keskar said. "Apart from its own three offices, AMD is present in 16 cities through channel and distribution partners and we will continue to increase our reach," he said. Today the company also announced appointment of LG as Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) partner. At present AMD has a 50-people team of which 30 are outsourced for marketing and business development. The company has also announced $5 million investment in the India Engineering Centre, which will start functioning this month. The company has started recruiting engineers for the centre, which will be 40 people strong by year-end. The 32-bit AMD Sempron processor for mobile and desktop computing that was launched in India is for everyday computing as compared to 64-bit Athlon processor that the company launched for performance computing.
