AMD, Sahara team up to make computing products

NEW DELHI: AMD (NYSE: AMD) today announced that Sahara Computers and Electronics Limited (SCEL) will make industry-leading computing products available across India. SCEL is a joint venture between Sahara India Pariwar and Sahara South Africa that will build and sell a range of 'Sahara'-branded computers based on AMD processors. "The combination of AMD's award-winning processors and Sahara's prominence as one of the biggest household names in India will help bring the benefits of computing technology to more of India's population," said Mr. Ajay Marathe, President, AMD India. "Sahara will focus on accelerating the adoption rate of computing technology throughout India by developing solutions that meet the specific needs of Indian customers. Our relationship with Sahara expands AMD's efforts to strengthen our leadership position in this critically strategic market." As part of its India charter, SCEL will manufacture and sell AMD processor-based products and solutions designed for the range of business and consumer technology buyers in the India market. These solutions will include computing platforms based on AMD Athlon(tm) 64 and AMD Sempron(tm) processors for desktop and mobile computing and AMD Opteron(tm) processors for workstations and servers.
