9.16 Million mobile subscribers added in August

New Delhi: The Indian telecom industry continues to record an upward trend with mobile operators adding 9.16 million subscribers in August, making India the second largest wireless market in the world. The total wireless subscriber base, which includes GSM, CDMA and WLL(F), stood at 305.24 million at the end of August, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) said Wednesday in a statement. Altogether, 9.16 million wireless subscribers have been added during August, against 9.22 million added in July, Trai added. The total number of telephone connections reached 343.87 million at the end of August, up from 334.84 million in July. The overall tele-density (number of people having a telephone connection per 100) was recorded at 29.83 percent at the end of August, as against 29.08 percent the month before. In the wireline segment, the subscriber base has slightly decreased to 38.63 million in August, against 38.76 million subscribers in July. Total broadband subscribers base reached 4.73 million by the end of August as compared to 4.57 million in the preceding month.
