8 Global Cities with Extreme Climate Risk

Ho Chi Minh City
Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam is the sixth city which possesses high risks with the changing climate. This Vietnamese city has a tropical climate, has two distinct climates, the hot and wet season in a year.

So many Chinese cities appearing on the list with ‘high risk’ factors posses major concern to the companies which use these cities as their manufacturing base. The report said, “Water stress is already a risk in China, due to the needs of industry and the agricultural sector, alongside swelling urban populations,” as reported by maplecroft.com

Kolkata
Kolkata ranked seventh on the list. It is the capital of West Bengal in India. Kolkata drifts between tropical wet to dry climate through the year. It receives rains from June to September brought by the Bay of Bengal south west summer monsoon. Kolkata has experienced several cyclone hits over the past years.

The debate on the effect of climate change on tropical storms is still open in many forums. However there are evidences to believe that it is closely associated with rainfall and its increase in intensity and frequency can be expected in the future.
