sony, betamax, VHS, JVC, VCRBetamax failed due to the high price and inability of Sony to license the technology. The analog videocassette magnetic tape recording format was developed in 1975, but by 1976 as JVC launched the VBS formats, Sony lost out. The storage capacity of Betamax was very low as compared to the VHS tapes, as a result all the production companies started migrating to the VHS format, leaving Betamax alone to starve to death. The failure of Betamax was accepted by Sony and it started manufacturing its own VHS VCRs in 1988.
