3. Mettur Dam:

Built in: 1934

Height: 120 ft.

Location: Salem, Tamil Nadu

Importance: Provides irrigation facilities to around 271,000 acres of farm land in Tamil Nadu

Mettur Dam is also built across the Kaveri river (Did you know Kaveri is spelt Cauvery in English?). This oldest dam of India is also popular as a south Indian tourist destination with the nearby park, major Hydro Electric power stations and hills. Mettur dam is the most powerful power generating capacity dam in the State Tamil Nadu. The places here are picturesque and dam side views will be wonderful experiences.
