$4 million USAID grant for disaster management

NEW DELHI: A U.S. agency will provide $4 million over three years to the joint India-U.N. disaster risk management programme. The United States Agency for International Development will provide the grant to the programme managed by the U.N. Development Programme (UNDP) and the Indian government, a UNDP release said. The grant, meant to strengthen capacities in disaster risk management at the community and grassroot levels, will help 20 hazard prone districts in Orissa, Gujarat, West Bengal, Uttaranchal and Assam. This is in addition to $7 million allocated by UNDP to the programme, the release said.
