Bangalore: In a bid to bring Yahoo! developers together, the Yahoo's Open Hack day kicked off on 14th February, which saw a participation of 361 developers. Globally, that was the 7th Open Hack day, while in India it's the 2nd one. On the sidelines of Open Hack Day, Yahoo's Co-Founder and Chief David Filo pinpointed that the increased consumption of internet is shifting ad spend from television and radio to internet. Citing the difficulty in India to grab the most of the opportunity CEO of Yahoo India R & D, Sharad Sharma said that the broadband access in India needs to improve, while PC penetration needs to be much faster. Among the 361 participants, there were 303 hackers and 58 Info Geeks, with participation from Bangalore touching 208. The event had Developer workshops with sessions led by Yahoo! on BOSS, Blueprint, OpenMail, YAP, YOL and Social and progresses to an overnight Hack Camp, concluding with demos, judging and awards presentation. Expanding into regular events in offices around the globe, the spirit of Open Hack Day was to leverage Yahoo's open API's and developer tools to create new applications. Recently, Yahoo! India even held Hack U events for the first time at IIT-Delhi and IIT-Mumbai, where developers used Yahoo! open technology to develop and showcase their applications.
