But some Asian analysts also point to Samsung's very different business model as helping it get a leg up on Apple.

Apple’s outsourcing structure provides fatter margins, but sheds some control to an army of suppliers, while Samsung's competitiveness is driven by keeping most of its manufacturing in-house.

While Apple focuses on high end devices, Samsung is a player ranging from budget devices to high end devices, which can drive budget users towards higher-margin devices like, Galaxy Note, a combo of phone and tablet.

"In Asia, Samsung is still in the stronger growth position when it comes to Smartphones - bringing large-screen models to the masses, re-introducing the pen with its Galaxy Note series and also, at the lower-end, with its entry-level Galaxy Y devices driving emerging markets like Indonesia and India," said Melissa Chau, Singapore-based research manager at IDC, reports Reuters.

It’s hard to write off Apple at this juncture, as the Cupertino giant is yet the World’s most valuable company and is expected to have a 27 percent revenue growth to about $200 billion in 2013, about the level of Samsung.

But the South Korean company is not far behind in generating some buzz with recent improvements in its line-up, be it Smartphone with unbreakable screen or the next flagship Galaxy SIV.  

Samsung out did Apple in number of the Smartphones shipped this year, the number for Samsung stood at 56 million shipments, double the number of iPhones, and now analysts expect Samsung to sell 30 million more this Smartphones than Apple this quarter.

This outdo by Samsung could be directly associated with some missteps from Apple, be it maps, delivery delays, and allegations of employee abuse at supplier plants in China.
