Ahmadabad is the major industrial hub of Gujarat and has become an important commerce centre for the state. The population of the city has been increasing over the years leading to a major construction boom and a significant rise in IT and scientific industries. Apart from these, the city also houses two of India's biggest pharmaceutical companies, Zydus Cadila and Torrent Pharmaceuticals. The city was ranked seventh in Competitiveness list.
