12 Biggest Tech Myths You Hear All the Time

8. Leaving Your Laptop Plugged In Will Kill The Battery

Here's a typical worry about laptop batteries, “I work at my desk, so my laptop is plugged in even when I am not using it. Is it true this ruins the battery? If that is the case, should I remove the battery when I am not using it??”

The answer is, “No, you are not ruining your laptop battery by keeping it on charge, unless your laptop is very, very old.”

This myth may have been true of nickel-based laptop batteries, which laptops don’t use anymore. Most laptops use lithium-based batteries which are not vulnerable to "losing charge" if you keep them plugged in all the time. In fact, it's perhaps better to stay plugged in than it is to frequently drain your battery to zero percent and then recharge over and over again as this will lower your battery's lifespan.
