10 Strangest Olympic Sports

La Canne (Played in 1926):

Canne de combat or La Canne is a French martial art. As weapon, it uses a cane or canne (a kind of walking stick) designed for fighting. In this weird game, the cane is held with one hand but the player can change it from hand to hand during the bout. Strokes are made either horizontally or downward, thrusting or stabbing blows were prohibited. The scoring zones are the calves, the torso and the head. Points are scored for style, according to the correctness of the body positions during fighting. Contact with prohibited areas such as the arms is penalized in this sport. It is thus possible to win a match without landing blow on one’s adversary, if he or she accumulates penalties. This sport was featured in the Summer Olympics Games demonstration sport in 1924. But now in modern sports era, such a sport is no longer recognized in the Olympic Games.

Roller Hockey (Played in 1922):

Maybe if this was the 1970s and there was a disco ball, this sport would have taken off. Roller Hockey debuted at the 1992 Barcelona Games. The game follows the rule of ice hockey, but with roller skates. The game is played by two teams consisting of four skaters and one goalie, on a dry rink divide by two halves by a center line, with one net at each end of the rink. The game is played in two 20-minute period. It is similar to ice hockey, where team work, skill and aggressiveness is required. In 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games, a total of 12 nations entered a team. The biggest contenders were Spain, Italy, Portugal and Argentina. Argentina took the gold by beating Spain. After 1992 Barcelona Olympics, the sport never featured in any of the Olympic Games.
