Transfagarasan – Romania
If there is one route which will totally take your breath away then this will be it. Transfagarasan is the highest and most dramatic paved road from Romania. Zigzagging and hairpinning through the Fagaras Mountains in Romania, this 100km drive is a truly unforgettable experience. Not for the fainthearted, the route climbs up to an altitude of 2034 meters and links Transylvania with it’s neighbouring province Muntenia passing through dramatic scenery and offering spectacular views, particularly from the highest peak in Romania, Moldoveanu. Between October and June this road is under the snow and usually closed.
Guoliang Tunnel Road – China
The Guoliang Tunnel is carved along the side of and through a mountain in China. The tunnel is located in the Taihang mountains which are situated in the Henan Province of China.The Guoliang Tunnel Road was built by 13 local villagers headed in only five years in the Taihang and many villagers lost their lives in accidents during the construction of this tunnel but in 1977 it was opened to traffic. This extremely beautiful scenic route was dubbed as “the road that does not tolerate any mistakes”. This road tunnel is the most dangerous road tunnel in the whole world and certainly a place to visit.
