Windows Mobile OS, the desktop-inspired operating system for mobile phones was a geeky handset drawing its share of fan fare until Apple’s iPhone debuted in 2007. The iPhone immediately hammered nails into the coffin containing Windows Mobile OS. While Microsoft kept its ante on innovating its dead mobile OS, Google’s Android mobile platform became the next best after iOS (now the most used mobile platform in the world). Though, twice beaten, Microsoft, after about 6 years of persistence, seems to have gotten it right this time, with range of Windows Phone 7 and Windows Phone 8 mobile OSs becoming quite popular with consumers. Nokia’s 27 percent growth in the sales of Windows Phone devices in Q1 results of 2013, says it all.
