It was originally developed by Johnson & Johnson to be used by the American army to fix windows and equipments and to seal containers during the World War. Duct tape is a cloth- or scrim-backed pressure-sensitive tape that is often coated with polyethylene. It was first developed by Permacell, a division of the Johnson and Johnson Company for American military forces during the World War II in 1942 to seal containers, mend cracked windows, and repair trucks. Post war, the tape came to be popular among the civilian use of holding ducts together. So the product changed from a nameless army green tape to the familiar gray duct tape. At present, duct tape has become the most versatile tool in household and  is extensively used in construction and repair purposes.
