When it comes to operating systems across web servers, CentOs is considered as one of the best. CentOS provides free enterprise class computing platform, completely based on the Linux Kernel. CentOS stand for Community Enterprise Operating System. The operating system mainly targets desktops, mainframes, servers and workstations.

The operating system works on Linux and runs its source codes from RHEL (Red Hat Enterprise Linux). Even though the packages and binaries from RHEL are so expensive and not easily available, CentOS takes the available source code from RHEL and rebuilds itself into a similar kind of Linux distribution for servers. And this idea has helped CentOS to achieve nearly 100 percent compatibility over third party RHEL apps. The operating system also supports almost all the packages and apps and codes and updates released by the original Red Hat Enterprise Linux Operating System.
