Cuenca, Spain: Cuenca is a beautiful city, old city in Spain that is most renowned for its Casas Colgadas or Hanging Houses. This city is considered as one of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites because of its medieval fortresses that have a mixture of religious and secular architecture. The Hanging Houses were built at the steep side of the cliff above Heucar River and were a common site in the earlier days as the cliff was lined with houses like these. At present, only three of such houses that were restored in the 20^th Century remain. The Museum of Spanish Abstract Art, one of the hanging houses that have been restored, has stunning wooden details on its interior with a Renaissance style entranceway. The house on the left is dedicated to a restaurant and kitchen called Casa de la Sirena or the house of the mermaid. It will steal your breath away to stand on their wooden balconies and look down at the deep Heucar gorge and the surrounding areas.
