My current role involves managing the affairs of a Technology Business Incubator [TBI] at KIIT University, Bhubaneswar. The Technology Business Incubator aims to promote new technology intensive or knowledge driven enterprises. The TBI intervenes into the spatial processes of the learning-based economy, integrates innovation and enterprise policy and fosters innovative start-up firms. Technology business incubators are a powerful economic development tool. They promote the concept of growth through innovation and application of technology, support economic development strategies for small business development, and encourage growth from within local economies, while also providing a mechanism for technology transfer.
The best and easiest way is to continue to produce Leaders. In my present role, we are creating Enterprises ready to take on the business world by imbibing in them the right traits. Leadership comes out of their domain expertise and the direction set out by the founding team.
Managing personal and professional life
It is not easy to avoid mistakes as some one has rightly said that if one has not committed mistakes then surely he is on a wrong path. Mistakes make us wise. Of course, we must learn from them. We must be accountable to ourselves and at the end of each day, we must retire with a clear conscience of having a day well spent .
With compassion and empathy, we can handle any situation.
Advice to upcoming leaders
I keep seeking advice from all sources which I sieve and use as per need. I guess, one has to just be a good listener and have empathy to be successful any where, whether in a Leadership position or otherwise.
An advertisement of a leading Automobile Company sums of my views about Leadership. It says “Leadership is not about domination, it is all about persuasion”. A Leader is not an administrator. The Leadership dynamics is not as simple as just about having few identifiable traits. Leadership is ‘inclusive’, Leadership is about caring, Leadership is about bringing out the best in others. For that to happen, a true Leader must first be able to recognize the latent potential of each member and put in place a strategy to harness his / her potential to the team’s advantage.
Taking Important career decision
To engage in the promotion of entrepreneurship and enterprises has so far been very rewarding.
My outlook on India technological development
We need to create a further enabling eco-system where commercialization of innovative ideas can take shape. We need to create an ambience where there will be more acceptance of failure. We need to nurture an environment where risk and reward are proportionate.
I have a small, happy and contended family.
My parents, undoubtedly. Father , a retired Government servant by his humility and unadulterated love for every one and my mother for her self less service even till this age for every one. The caring and sharing they imbibed in me has had a tremendous impact on my working styles.
