Bangalore: The students of Shri Krishna Mandhir in Ajab village of Gujarat are privileged to have Chiman Delwadia, an NRI engineer from Alabama as their teacher who imparts knowledge to them through online classes. A big TV monitor, a wireless microphone with web conference and internet facilities, in the middle of a dimly lit small classroom catches the attention of everyone.

The class which starts at sharp 8 in the morning continues for 90 minutes where students belonging to classes 7, 8 and 9 ask him their doubts on math problems and he has also helps them in improving their English conversations. Earlier, math was one of the most hated subjects by children and now because of the tri-weekly classes held by Delwadia, it has turned out to be one of their favourite subjects. , "I don't fear maths anymore. I expect to get at least 80 marks, thanks to these online classes’’, says Savan Nishu, who recently took his class 10th exams.

Delwadia who was born in Ajab village of Gujarat shifted to US in the year 1978 and is currently working as a systems manager. "Whenever I came to Ajab, I was pained to see that education in government schools was so pathetic and poor children can't afford to go to private schools. So, we decided to do come up with free online interactive classes,’’ Delwadia told TOI from the U.S.

Kalyani Jani, a research associate and Tara Roy, a medical technologist, two Alabama-settled women helps Delwadia with his venture. "Children are learning a lot and are very dedicated," says Jani.

"The students are always eager to attend online classrooms as it provides a new and innovative approach to their study,'' said Ashvin Ratanpara, a resident of Ajab village.
