10. Presidential Election in the US and the Victory of Ami Bera
Dr Ami Bera created history by becoming the third Indian-American ever to be elected to the US House of Representatives.
Bera won the contest against his Republican rival and incumbent Dan Lungren with a lead of 184 votes.
California’s seventh Congressional District was one of the most competitive and costliest in America and moreover Bera was endorsed by the former US President Bill Clinton.
Only two Indian-Americans, Dalip Singh Saund and Bobby Jindal have been elected to the US House of Representatives so far.
