U.S. Hikes H-1B Visa Fee
Bangalore: Rejection of work visas to Indians has turned out to be a burning issue and now with the increase in the fee of H-1 B visa, this has become a major concern of Indians. Indian IT companies uses H-1 B visas extensively, the cost of which has now increased to around 
12,500 and as per the estimates, it will cost nearly Rs 1.25 crore for a company to apply for 1,000 visas.
Leading Indian companies apply for H-1B visas in many thousands, which make India one of the biggest users of these visas. These companies account for about 30,000 of the 65,000 H-1B visas available, but with the US Government tightening the visa rules, there has been a considerable decrease in the number over the past years.
The USD passed a bill in the year 2010 to increase the fees for each new visa application, both H-1B and L-1, which was applicable to applicants who employ 50 or more than 50 workers in US, and for those who have 50 percent of these employees are under the status of H-1B or L-1.This rule was more or less intended towards the Indian IT companies, which affected the small Indian firms (around 500 companies) apart from the big ones.
Some Indian based IT firms wrote a letter to US President Barack Obama previous week regarding the rejection of L1 visas and now with the increase in fee of H-1B visas the burden increases.
