Bangalore: The leading Indian IT company Infosys is facing investigation by the Department of Homeland security regarding the visa irregularities following the complaint of Jack B Palmer, an American employee of the company.

Palmer accused that Infosys’s brought Indian employees to U.S on B-1 visas which are short term and less costly, instead of H-1B visas and are paying them low income.

According to Infosys, the Department of Homeland security is examining the verifications of work visa applications by the employees, in which the employer officially states that the employees are qualified enough to work there. It is also heard that the department came across certain mistakes in “significant percentage” of these applications, which might result in fines and penalties for Infosys.

Infosys told that the result of the review of applications and the amount of penalties they have to pay cannot be predicted. The firm is also fighting accusations in U.S. courts regarding the misuse of short-term visitor visas to send low-cost workers to the United States.
