Indian-American To Host This Years Spelling Bee Contest In U.S.
WASHINGTON: Indian-American sports anchor Kevin Negandhi would host this year's National Spelling Bee competition, becoming the first Indian-origin to present the prestigious event.
The spelling competition has produced Indian-American champions for eight consecutive years, and 13 of the past 17 a run that began in 1999.
However, this is for the first time that an Indian-American would be hosting the prestigious event, that has been dominated by the Indian American students for the past several years. This year's competition will be held May 24 to 26.
Negandhi's parents migrated to the US from Mumbai. He grew up in Philadelphia. He worked with Philadelphia Inquirer and USA Today.
Negandhi became the second Indian-American to be a local sports anchor in the country, serving as sports anchor and later sports director at KTVO-TV from 1998-99. Negandhi is currently working as an sports anchor for ESPN.
