Bangalore: Nitin Tumma, a 17 year old Indian American has been honoured with the Nobel Prize for juniors in science competition for his research on cancer pathogenesis. Two other Indian American students, Neel Patel and Anirudh Prabhu made it to the top 10 list in the competition (popularly known as Intel Science Talent Search), which is one of the most prestigious and oldest ‘science and math competition’ in the U.S.

Nitin is the only Indian American winner of this competition so far who was awarded an amount of $100,000 by Intel Foundation. He is from Northern High School in Port Huron who did project on the topic “Elucidating Pathways in Cancer Pathogenesis: Establishment of Interaction between TGF-ß/Ras Pathways and Identification of gC1qR as an Oncoprotein.”

Unlike previous year’s competition where none of the Indian kids could make it to the top 10, this time three of them fought back and conquered the competition. Seven Indian-Americans were successful in entering the list of 40 finalists, who even got the opportunity to meet U.S. President at the White House.
