Bangalore: To be a part of one of the most celebrated TV shows in the U.S., American Idol, you don’t have to be an American and this is something which has been proved by some of the talented contestants from India. They were successful in grabbing the attention of millions by their outstanding voice and performance.

Sanjaya Malakar

Sanjaya, an Indian American singer was a finalist on the sixth season of American Idol and he was the most talked about participant based on articles and searches carried out on the internet. Even though he was not rated well enough by the judges of the programme, Sanjay got the support of public and thus gained a lot of national attention.

Sanjaya, resident of Greater Seattle area was honoured by The Federal Way City Council, following his outstanding performance at the American Idol.

He was presented a Certificate of Appreciation from the city and declaration of "South King County Sanjaya Malakar Day".

After Idol, Malakar made many television guest appearances. In the second season of the famous reality show I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here!, he won the 5th position.

He was born to a Bengali Indian musician, Vasudeva Malakar and Italian American mother Jillian Recchi Blyth.
