Bangalore: Dr.Sivaguru Jayaraman, an Indian American researcher of North Dakota State University has been selected to receive the ‘Young Investigator Award’ for the year 2012, by Sigma Xi.

Sivaguru focused his research on the use of light to initiate chemical reactions and to control photoreactivity in the excited state using molecular design and nanoconfinement.

Sivaguru investigated the molecular and supramolecular assembly features of systems to understand the relationship between molecular structure, assembly, dynamics, etc. He also emphasized on the role of external interactions which is crucial for molecular recognition actions in reactions which are light-initiated.

Earlier, in the year 2008 Sivaguru received Science Foundation CAREER award for his proposal titled "Imprinting Molecular Chirality in Solution during Photo-Transformations."

After completing Ph.D. from Tulane University, Sivaguru received a post-doctoral fellowship from Columbia University, New York. He did his post graduation in chemistry from the Indian Institute of Technology in Madras and graduation in from Joseph's College, Trichy.
