Foxconn Building An Amazon Smartphone: Report

Bangalore: It’s just been a day since Jeff Bezos got the patent for a Smartphone airbag. But reports already suggest that an Amazon Smartphone is under the veil at Foxconn, the infamous Taiwanese manufacturer.

According to the report from Taiwan Economic News, Amazon had reportedly contracted Foxconn to manufacture 5 million Smartphones which would be priced between $100 and $200. The report says the device will be launched between second and third quarters of 2013. Foxconn is the current manufacturer of Amazon’s Kindle and also Apple’s iPhone and iPad.

Rumors about an Amazon Smartphone is around for a long time. But the online retailer never confirmed it. However with the competition in Smartphone market getting high and everybody wanting a bite from it, it wouldn’t be difficult for Amazon to make one on its own, following the strategy it used for Kindle Fire, its successful tablet.

There were also reports about Microsoft prepping its rumored Surface Smartphone for release in mid 2013. Google’s I/O developer conference and a proposed Apple event will also come around the same time, which will be a feast for the tech enthusiasts.
