YouTube Becomes A 1 Billion User Website

Bangalore: YouTube on Thursday said that the number of unique visitors visiting its site has reached 1 billion. This however goes six months after Facebook which had announced its 1 billion mark last year in October.

YouTube has helped Google by providing a lucrative channel to sell advertizing along with its other search businesses. The video platform was launched in 2005 and was the brought by Google in 2006. It paid 1.76 billion dollars for the site which had 30 to 40 million users at that time.

According to the company, every one out of two people on the internet accessed YouTube. Stressing on the business potential of this large audience, it said that thousands of partners have found and built businesses for passionate audiences and that advertisers have noticed this.

With Facebook crossing the 1 billion mark, its sustaining growth is what seems challenging right now.
