Updated Version of Google Search Raises the Level of Convenience for Users

BENGALURU: Google Search has always been  a convenient feature on smartphones that facilitates users with a plethora of precise results anytime, anywhere in a just matter of clicks. The search engine giant has come up with a new feature that allows users to text, call or email directly from the search results. Currently, the feature seems to be under the testing phase as only few users have been seeing it appear on the Google Search app results . The new update mainly focuses on elevating the level of convenience by reducing the number of taps usually needed to find, text or call a contact from the list.

The latest update was discovered by an Android user James Scott Jr. while searching for contacts on the Google Search app. At the moment, the app displays simple name cards for Android users when they try to search for a specific contact. Clicking on the cards directs them to the contact page from the Contacts app that offers options such as text, call, WhatsApp etc and also lets users decide the suitable course of action. The app effectively revamps the overall functionality and enables users to do more in fewer clicks. The company’s focus on search tends to highlight online and contextual information more than the locally stored content, although, mass public roll out has not been announced yet.

Spotlight Search, a similar app on iOS also proves to be impressive when it comes to finding online data and locally stored content. It allows users to search variety of third-party and native apps, offering users a wide array of results. With the assistance of third-party developer support, some extra code was also added to support the feature. In short, over the past one year, functions such as texting, calling and many more using a contact search result has effectively been available.
