Samsung Said No To Nokia Acquire; It's Microsoft Now

Bangalore: Nokia, the Finnish Telecom manufacturer who once had a monopoly on the cell phone market is going through a bad phase with its shares hitting all time low. Lately, the rumors about an acquisition offer by Samsung had made Nokia’s shares rose six percent.

But as reported by Reuters, Samsung Electronics today denied the news about its interest in acquiring Nokia, but the speculations on a possible Microsoft buyout is still running high. Once a most valuable company in the Europe, Nokia’s shares are now running near two Euros, the lowest since mid 1990’s.

A report on Helsinki Times stated, “The investment community is filled with rumors, and there are plenty about what could happen to Nokia. One of the most persistent rumors is that Microsoft may buy the company.” Nokia’s stocks were now below Book Value- a situation described as ‘worth more dead than alive,’ stated the weekly.

Another report on the Wall Street Journal suggests that Nokia’s alliance with Microsoft is a powerful one. “Apple and Google have already won the mobile-phone business, and everyone else is doomed. But that's what they once said about Nokia. Things change in this industry. Microsoft, which is desperate to play catch-up in smart-phones, could buy Nokia today out of petty cash," stated the report.

The mobile giant has declined 46 percent in the past year and is now valued at 8.4 billion Euros.
